This Day In History

1913 On this day in 1913, Governor Cox pardoned Louis Peck, releasing him from the Ohio Penitentiary. Peck was accused of having assaulted six-year-old Christina Maas in 1900. His confession and arrest were followed by days of rioting that shook the city. Rioters wanted to lynch Peck for his crime.
1929 On this day in 1929, Police Officer William H. Grubbs was shot and wounded, at the corner of East Market Street and Johns Avenue, while searching two robbery suspects for concealed weapons. Officer Grubbs died in the hospital four days later (May 10, 1929).
