Hotel Howe

This towering structure once stood at 11 South Main Street. The 11-story, 112-room hotel was the tallest building in Akron when it opened in 1915. The hotel, which had been left vacant and neglected for years, was demolished in 1998.

This Day In History

1901 On this day in 1901, the Akron YWCA was organized.
1930 On this day in 1930, Police Officer Harland F. Manes Officer Harland Manes was shot and killed while responding to an accident. One of the vehicles involved in the accident contained members of the Pretty Boy Floyd Gang, who shot and killed Officer Manes.
