This Day In History

1929 On this day in 1929, Rear Admiral William A. Moffett, the Chief of the U.S. Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics, drove the "golden rivet" in the U.S.S. Akron's first main ring.
1945 On this day in 1945, Firestone Tire and Rubber Company's plane crashed at the Akron Municipal Airport. The crash killed Edward J. Quigley, chief pilot for Firestone and Edward Brown, an engineer in Firestone's research and development office. A. F. Weber, Jr., also an engineer in the development office was badly burned.
