This Day In History

1903 On this day in 1903, Akron switched from using volunteer firefighters to paid firefighters.
1939 On this day in 1939, Goodyear opened the "World's Fair of Rubber". A temporary exhibit that went on to become the "World of Rubber". The exhibit closed in 2009.
1987 On this day in 1987, Goodrich announced the end of its manufacturing in Akron, a loss of 794 jobs. This also marked the end of mass-produced tires by any company in Akron.
