Great Western Cereal Company - Mother's Oats, Akron, Ohio

Great Western Cereal Company

“Oatmeal is the Cereal beefsteak. It is the very thing that produces the finest meat on cattle. But why not take your meat at first hand or rather the meat elements? Why wait until it has passed through the tissues of a living animal? Don’t eat it second-handed — eat it in oatmeal itself, in the form of Mother’s Oats.”

Mother Oats was a brand name marketed by the Great Western Cereal Company. Great Western milled oats in Akron as well as Boston, New Haven, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh Albany, and St. Louis. In 1911, Quaker purchased the Great Western Cereal Company and soon after (1915) began producing oats in the famous round boxes.
