New Dam at the Gorge, Akron/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

Gorge – Dam

The dam was built in 1911-1912 by the Northern Ohio Traction & Light Co. as part of a hydroelectric plant that generated electricity for its Akron trolley cars. Use of the Hydroelectric generation plant was discontinued in 1958.

This Day In History

1918 On this day in 1918, Police Officer Edward Costigan was the second of four Akron Policemen to be shot and killed by members of an Italian gang in retaliation for the Akron Police Department's crackdown on their gambling dens and brothels.
