Akron High School

The high school was located on Forge Street, between College and Union Streets, facing Union Park. The school was established in 1857, but the pictured building was erected in 1885 at a cost of $135,000.

This Day In History

1901 On this day in 1901, the Akron YWCA was organized.
1930 On this day in 1930, Police Officer Harland F. Manes Officer Harland Manes was shot and killed while responding to an accident. One of the vehicles involved in the accident contained members of the Pretty Boy Floyd Gang, who shot and killed Officer Manes.
