East Market Street – Looking West

The Empire House opened on November 20, 1847. The hotel served Akron visitors until it was torn down in 1912 to make way for the Portage Hotel.

This Day In History

1943 On this day in 1943, firefighter Roy W. Smith was overcome by smoke and heat while responding to a fire at 536 Washington Street.
