This Day In History

1836 On this day in 1836, Akron was incorporated as a city.
1918 On this day in 1918, Police Officer Gothin Richards was shot five times in front of 323 South Main Street. He was the fourth of four Akron Policemen to be shot and killed by members of an Italian gang in retaliation for the Akron Police Department's crackdown on their gambling dens and brothels.
