Firestone Tire and Rubber Co.

In its first year of operation, the Firestone grossed more than $100,000 in profit. Initially, the company was not involved in the actual production of rubber.  Instead, they purchased premade rubber and attached it to carriage wheels.

This Day In History

1827 On this day in 1827, the first canal boat on the Ohio and Erie Canal left Akron, traveled through 41 locks and over 3 aqueducts along 37 miles of canal, to arrive at Cleveland on July 4.
1949 On this day in 1949, Donald L. Plusquellic, Akron's longest-serving mayor, was born.
