Akron Baptist Temple

The Akron Baptist temple first opened in 1934 with 14 members at Rimer Elementary School in Akron. It was led by Rev. Dallas F. Billington, known, in part, for his racism and support of segregation.

This Day In History

1851 On this day in 1851, Sojourner Truth addresses the First Black Women's Rights Convention.
1907 On this day in 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt's train stopped in Akron on its way to Indianapolis. While waiting for the train to be switched, Roosevelt hiked into the countryside and made a surprise visit to the home of Frank Thomas, a local farmer.
