Akron’s first permanent library had a remarkably short relationship with its 1904 purpose built home. In 1942, less than 40 years after construction, the library packed up and moved out.
In 1874, the newly-formed Akron Public Library Board met for the first time, with John R. Buchtel serving as the first President.
