City Hospital

In 1989 Akron’s City Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital merged to form the Summa Health. The new company runs a network of hospitals including Akron, Barberton, St. Thomas, and Western Reserve.

This Day In History

1909 On this day in 1909, Akron received its first "Triple Combination Automobile Fire Truck". The vehicle served as a fire truck, a hose wagon, and a pumper. Cost to the city, $7,200.
1971 On this day in 1971, President Richard Nixon toured the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, then stayed overnight in a special suite on the fifth floor of the Akron Holiday Inn.
