This Day in History: 1931-08-08

On this day in 1931, the USS Akron (ZRS-4) launched from Akron. She was the world’s first purpose-built flying aircraft carrier, carrying F9C Sparrowhawk fighter planes which could be launched and recovered while she was in flight.
